HOPE receives $562,500 grant
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and its
foundation are investing $562,500 in HOPE
Christian Schools of Milwaukee to help
support the HOPE Institute. The Institute
was founded to strengthen leadership
development, educational quality and faculty
retention for all three HOPE schools.
“At HOPE, we believe that every child has
the capacity to learn,” said Kole Knueppel,
superintendent of HOPE Christian Schools.
“Our driving philosophy is to accept no
excuses, take no shortcuts and expect
nothing less than college as the goal for
our students. Thrivent Financial’s
generosity makes it possible for HOPE to
provide teachers and administrators with the
professional, emotional and spiritual
support that they need to serve our students
effectively.”
Building and maintaining successful schools
in the midst of Milwaukee’s toughest
neighborhoods requires incredible devotion.
Nowhere is that devotion deeper than in the
educators who make the most direct, personal
contribution to that effort. But even the
most impassioned, talented teachers and
administrators need support. The Thrivent
Financial grant will help provide that
support through the HOPE Institute, which
offers three key programs:
Future Principals/Teachers Leadership
Training Program Leverages seasoned urban-education veterans
to share their wisdom, and provide the
hands-on training that future principals and
teachers need to succeed in the
urban-education environment.
Faculty Mentoring and Wellness Program Provides support for and encouragement to
existing teachers and administrators to
enhance the quality of instruction, maintain
satisfaction and increase retention.
Seminars and Community Workshops Program Educates and equips HOPE faculty members and
area educators with skills and strategies
that help them thrive in the classroom,
while enabling them to build relationships
and share best practices with peers and
parents – an essential aspect of community
revitalization.
The HOPE Institute staff is comprised of
college professors, mentors, counselors,
pastors and seasoned urban-education
veterans from HOPE, Wisconsin Lutheran
College and Wisconsin Lutheran Child &
Family Service.
Thrivent Financial’s grant to HOPE is part
of a $1.3 million investment the company and
its foundation are making in the Harambee
North neighborhood. At least $636,000 of
Thrivent Financial’s grant will go to
Habitat for Humanity to build 10 homes near
HOPE’s high school. The remaining $75,000
will go to Local Initiatives Support
Corporation and Habitat for neighborhood
planning.
“These initiatives are focused on improving
the lives of children, families and the
greater community of Harambee North,” said
Jim Fischer, managing partner of the
Thrivent Financial Southeast Wisconsin
Region. “Thrivent Financial and its
members-volunteers are committed to working
with community partners so together we can
make a bigger impact to address critical
needs.”
