HOPE
Institute update
The HOPE Institute provides educators
with the necessary training, professional
development
resources, and ongoing mentoring that they
need to serve students and their families.
Every year, HOPE takes teachers to visit
other high-performing schools. The trips
allow our team to observe best practices,
share ideas with their peers, and
have time to relax and bond with each other.
The entire team traveled to Chicago for a
few days of fun and professional
development. Faculty and administrators
visited several schools, including Noble
Street, Namaste and KIPP Ascend.
After the tours, the group brainstormed
ways to incorporate ideas that they liked
into HOPE’s
program.
The team also took time to explore
Chi-town. Highlights included listening to
blues at Kingston
Mines and running into former Chicago Bears
coach Mike Ditka at Ditka’s restaurant.
Coach Ditka posed for pictures with teachers
even though HOPE’s schools are located in
Packer country.
Professional growth and development
HOPE teachers and administrators
participated in several professional growth
sessions led by outside experts, including
workshops on language arts in Houston,
Texas, and on math in San Antonio, Texas,
and San Jose, Calif.
On-site sessions at HOPE
included:

Teaching with Love and Logic®
Love and Logic is a method of working
with students that was developed by
educational expert Jim Fay and child
psychiatrist Foster W. Cline, M.D. The
one-day seminar provided practical tips and
resources to help manage behavior in the
classroom by using positive discipline
techniques.

inspired the launch of the nationally
acclaimed KIPP Academies. Ms. Ball has been
featured on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” CBS’
“The Early Show” and in numerous newspaper
articles, including USA Today and The New
York Times. Ms. Ball’s one-day workshop
provided participants with multi-sensory,
mnemonic strategies to teach math and
language arts.
